Alissa Bergsma - MidwifeI am honoured and humbled to be starting my career as a midwife in Calgary, a city I am happy to call home. It has always been my dream to work with women and reproductive health, and discovering midwifery has proven to be the perfect fit. Before midwifery, I worked as a nurse, where I gained valuable and applicable experience providing care to families in maternal-newborn settings. It was during that time that I realized the importance and value midwifery has in the Canadian health care setting. The guiding midwifery principles of informed choice, continuity of care, and choice of birthplace provide a standard of care that I believe all families should have access to.

I completed my midwifery education at Ryerson University in Ontario in 2016. My time as a student was challenging, rewarding, and life-changing. To be a small part of and witness the transformation of families was truly awesome. I believe my education set me up in the best way possible to provide evidence-based, compassionate and comprehensive care to all clients.

My goal is to practice safely within midwifery scope, utilizing the core midwifery principles, while maintaining my passion, dedication and commitment to both clients and the midwifery profession. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your families!
