Janna Miller, Calgary Midwife and her familyMidwifery, like pregnancy and birth, has been a journey for me. I met my first midwife in London, England and instantly knew that I had to pursue my passion for helping pregnant women and their families. I returned to Calgary and found myself working as a birth doula. I enjoyed this time but knew that I wanted to be a midwife. I attended the Oregon School of Midwifery in Eugene, Oregon and trained as a direct entry midwife and love it! I was fortunate enough to work in Kingston, Jamaica at Labour of Love. This was an extremely busy center for pregnant women and served as a choice to give birth. When I returned to Calgary, I completed my apprenticeship in Central Alberta. I am forever grateful for the rural experience and birthing knowledge that I gained.

I added to my personal skills when my husband and I had our first son in 2003 and a second son in 2006. They are my greatest joy and provide me balance in my life. I am continually thankful for all of their support. I am humbled by the knowledge of the women I work with and with whom I spend precious events with. It is my wish to continue on the path of continual learning as midwifery grows and changes and my true belief that birth works.

It is with genuine happiness that I have returned to practice as a midwife in Calgary. I am proud to be a founding member of the Calgary Midwives Collective.
